Ljubljana! Slovenia - Part One.

Welcome to Ljubljana (lubujana, ljjuanna, lublijana, ljubanna ljsfdhff). To this day, I'm still not 100% sure how to pronounce the name of Slovenia's capital. Forever sounding super cultural whist meeting people, when the first question asked would always be ''so where have you been so far'' - Yeah you know the one, ''Lbjunaniajbfbf".

Anyway, to get you up to speed. My best pal, Holly, and I spent the whole summer trying to decide on a mini Eastern Europe road trip we could fit into 12 days. Just 5 days before we left, we finally decided on Slovenia and Croatia! It looked beautiful and I don't know a lot of people who've visited here before, which made it even more exciting to see with fresh eyes (Such hipster trend setters, I know).

Whist on our trip around Slovenia, you find out pretty quickly that most people visiting are either from neighbouring European countries or on a massive inter-railing trip and this is just a small stop off. But if you think Slovenia isn't worth a proper visit, you're very mistaken - Please feel free to add Slovenia to your wish list over my next few blog posts.

We were so happy when we arrived in the city and our bargin hostel was right in the centre of everything! - We checked in super quickly to explore. I'm very much a feminist, but sometimes, when you've been on a flight since 6am, you just need to flutter your eye lashes a bit until the receptionist offers to carry your 22kg suitcase up 3 very steep flights of stairs so you don't die before your holiday begins.

Strenuous exercise avoided, we headed to one of the first cafe's we saw which happened to be the cutest veggie cafe! It was right by the buzzing weekend market where bands played in the streets - this was also where I had the best vegan cheese burger I've ever eaten in my life.

We spent the afternoon exploring the streets and eyeing up places to eat and drink later on in the night. It turns out Ljubljana one of the smallest capitals I've been too and can be easily walked round in a 1 or 2 days. Cafe's and bars line the river which runs through the city and streets behind are full of various other restaurants - all in all, making it a very tough decision to decide where we want to eat when theres only 3 meals in a day.

Night time views whilst crossing the river. (Dress from First and I -ASOS). We had a perfect night, bar hopping along the river side drinking fancy (strong) cocktails while the sunset. All was great until we entered our room later on that night.

Turns out we actually booked a sauna in our hostel instead of a room to sleep in?! Our room was on the top floor with a skylight and omg, was HOT. We did eventually sleep 3 hours later - butt naked and spread eagle, as close to the fan (which could be mistaken for a hair dryer in many salons)  as humanly possible.

I'm pleased to let you know we survived the ordeal. There was no hot water left when we got up, but luckily we were so hot from our night in the fire place, it was actually quite nice. Although, uni sex showers are not the one -Hostel fun.

On our way to breakie we came across the Sunday antique flee market which was sooo cute! We would have bought so much stuff if we had room in our case. Although holly had her eye on an antique light which was almost half the size of me, so that was never going to happen.

We decided to take a trip on the funicular (because we're lazy) up to the top of the castle for a drink above the city. If you've read my blog before, you'll know I bloody love a good view. We also realised there was quite a few areas we still wanted to visit after looking over the edge.

Love lock bridge.

One of our favourite things we did in Ljubljana was renting bikes - once I'd forced Holly on to one of course. They only cost roughly £2 for 2 hours and we got to see the whole city in this time! The whole of Ljubljana is completely flat, so riding a bike is effortless and you get a well needed breeze if you're visiting in summer.

Riding through lanes full of graffiti and street art in the Metelkova district - Not a bare wall in site.

Chilling in the park in the middle of the city to cool down.

Food in Slovenia is mostly meat based stews or Italian dishes being so close to Italy. I can't eat the meat side, so ate mostly ate pasta and Pizzas, which was great as it's my favourite type of food.

For our final evening, we took a boat tour around the city. It was nice to enjoy a glass of wine while we floated along the river, however you don't see much more that you would walking around - I wouldn't put it on my top things to do if you've got little time.

On our final day in the capital, we popped back to our favourite veggie cafe for a good old avo on toast, before buying a bus ticket and heading off on our next adventure - TO BE CONTINUED.

Prague OOTD

Just checking in with a quick, and final, outfit of the day from Prague. I've been wearing this playsuit all through summer (and winter whilst wearing my alcohol coat of course). I'm not someone to wear an item once and discard it, so this style of playsuit is definitely my favourite, worn with a sandal or some strappy heels, it's been a perfect essential this year.

Camouflage, Prague style

Another trip away, without fail, brings another outfit post. Being in another country tends to inspire what I wear while I'm away. The atmosphere is so lively in Prague, every street is filled with intricate architecture and vibrant colours - it definitely gives Balamory a run for it's money.

I of course had to fill my half (2/3rds) of our suitcase with lots of colourlful pieces and capture a bit of Prague's style in my day to day outfits. I love this top from Zara, the material is ridged to give that edgy crimped effect, 10 year olds try to get it their hair before a night at the disco. I love how it drapes so nicely over this little leather cut out skirt - when I haven't just eaten a massive dinner that is. I'm all about the little details in summer when it's too hot to throw lots of layers on.

A simple top with a pop of colour is undoubtably a travel essential, especially with a material like this -No creases! Another contender has surprisingly been a little white skirt. Of course white goes with practically everything, so when I'm trying to create a capsule wardrobe in my case, I find my self reaching for a white/neutral denim or leather skirt every time -simple but essential.

Prague life

Following on from my previous post in the more rural endz of Czech, we made it to Prague! I may have taken us on the scenic route, but we finally made it to our hotel about mid day. The hotel we stayed at was Yasmin hotel (partially chosen due to the name) which was so lovely (Just like every Yasmin) and central - Highly recommend if you're planning a trip to the capital.

Sun shining brighter than Rhianna's diamonds, we headed out to explore the city as soon as we'd checked in. First stop, we visited the Old Town Square. Like many European towns, beautiful building lined windy little streets, all leading towards the main square. Each street is packed with shops, restaurants and stalls - many selling Trdelnik which is the BEST snack ever (see photo below)

It's basically warm sweet pastry rolled in cinnamon (and nuts in this case). You can eat it plain or with fillings, chocolate and ice cream was the best.

One may have accidentally fallen into my mouth every day for four days straight. So after trying many samples, our 5 star rating goes to last stall before Charles Bridge. I wish I could remember the name but I was too focused on eating to remember that. Sorry not sorry.

For some my favourite views in Prague, it's definitely worth a trip up the clock tower located in the middle of the square. It doesn't look super high, but Prague isn't the largest city and with 306' views, you can see a fair bit.

The square from above - the best place for a spot of people watching with a 50p beer in hand (or cocktail, if you think you're fancy like me). Literally everyone is on a Segway, so it's fun to watch people with big egos weaving in and out of the crowds, and if you're lucky, falling off.

Every hour the clock sounds and everyone gathers around to view the show. We literally missed this by 5 mins every time we passed through the square, just in time to see crowds of people disappearing. On the final day we finally arrived at 5 to 3 to find out what all the fuss was about but to be honest it was a little underwhelming if you ask me, but when in Prague.

At the end of the day we went to watch the sun set over Charles Bridge which was super cute. Various bands go their to play music while you soak up the last drops of the sun before enjoying a bevy in the streets.

Definitely didn't just order this because the glass was cool. All the waiters had their beady eyes on me, so I was too scared to try and steal it and pretend I thought it was included in the price (was expensive after all). Don't judge me, everyone in life has at least one glass in their cupboard that once belonged to a pub.

Breakfast every morning basically looked like this *drools*. I tend to get a little bit over excited by a buffet breakie and eat EVERYTHING in site. You haven't made the most of your money until you've visited every food station. Not going to lie, four out of the six plates below were just for me and I may have gone up for more, but who was hungry again at 12pm, not me! - probably still me.

Second day we took a trip to Zizkov after a bit of a palaver on our journey there. We accidentally walked through open barriers in the station (after just buying tickets) and were fined by shitty metro security, who wouldn't listen to a word we had to say. They clearly aren't getting any at home, so take out on unsuspecting tourists. Not bitter at all. Wankers.

Anywho, Zizkov was super chilled and quiet compared to central Prague, so definitely lived up to it's hipster rep. We had heard the views from the television tower were pretty cool, so took a trip to the top floor.

The place was pretty swanky and chilled, however if you're looking for an amazing spot to see Prague I'd recommend walking up Prague castle over here.

Ash had seen a photo of Havlíčkovy Sady and insisted on having a wonder around as this was fairly near by. Its a massive park which is home to a vineyard (which sadly I did not know at the time) and this beautiful building below, although the view was slightly spoiled by a naked old man sunbathing on the balcony - Nothing like a droopy backside to put you off your lunch.

The inside looked like it should be under water with mermaids swimming around. The walls are made of porous rock that looks like coral which forms little walk ways all leading to circular rooms with carved out chairs. All in all, pretty damn cute.

The next day we did an unexpected bum work out climbing up to Prague castle, although I definitely cancelled that out with my Smažák (fried cheese) later on. It wasn't quite what I expected, it's not your stereotypical castle, it's more the castle grounds surrounding a cathedral. We we're slightly confused looking around for the castle wondering how the hell we could miss it, before realising we had walked right through it. So cultured.

I didn't actually take any photo's up there (first time for everything) but you can look down at the whole of Prague which was really beautiful.

We stumbled across the Statue of Kafka while I was taking us on the 'scenic route' to our hotel on the first day, clearly I should have done DofE as a child. We went back to have a proper look and stumbled across some nice restaurants for lunch.

The statue is actually really mesmerizing, all the  layers move in different directions occasionally crossing to create the face of David Černý. - and yes, I did stand here for a solid 15 mins trying to create the perfect boomerang.

On our final day we took a stroll on the other side of Charles bridge, which as always, lead us on the a long ass walk. It's just as pretty on the other side with loads of places to eat and drink.

We ended up a big further down the river and spotted some pedelos. It was so hot and the water gave off the perfect breeze for sunbathing, all that was missing was a glass of wine. I just relaxed and put my feet up as I could tell ash really wanted to peddle us around...

We ended our final day drinking along the river in an outside bar whilst live bands sung some of my favourite songs. bliss.

Hagen daz ice cream fondu?! It'd be rude not too.

Until next time!
